Undergraduate Tuition Trends

Public colleges: In 2025, average in-state tuition & fees are $8,004, while out-of-state tuition & fees are $19,329. Year-over-year, in-state costs changed by 1.12% and out-of-state costs changed by -1.72%. Since 2015, cumulative growth is 40.81% (in-state) and 26.38% (out-of-state).

Private colleges: The average tuition & fees are $16,277 in 2025. That is a -1.88% change from last year and 1.51% cumulative growth since 2015.

Graduate Tuition Trends

Public graduate schools: In 2025, average in-state graduate tuition & fees are $11,868, while out-of-state graduate tuition & fees are $23,233. Year-over-year, in-state costs changed by -2.12% and out-of-state costs changed by -3.53%. Since 2015, cumulative growth is 24.82% (in-state) and 25.91% (out-of-state).

Private graduate schools: The average graduate tuition & fees are $20,760 in 2025. That is a 71.43% change from last year and -17.21% cumulative growth since 2015.

Public vs. private comparison (increase rates): In 2025, private undergraduate tuition changed by -1.88% year-over-year. Public undergraduate in-state changed by 1.12% (higher by 3.00 percentage points vs. private), and public out-of-state changed by -1.72% (higher by 0.15 percentage points vs. private). Over the full period since 2015, private undergraduate tuition grew by 1.51%, compared with public in-state 40.81% (higher by 39.31 percentage points vs. private) and public out-of-state 26.38% (higher by 24.87 percentage points vs. private).

Since 2015, cumulative on-campus COA growth is 47.07% (public in-state), 36.47% (public out-of-state), and 21.56% (private).

Off-campus COA: In 2025, estimated off-campus COA is $30,874 (public in-state), $42,198 (public out-of-state), and $39,147 (private). Year-over-year, off-campus COA changed by 5.41%, 2.82%, and 3.12%. Since 2015, cumulative off-campus COA growth is 48.09% (public in-state), 38.55% (public out-of-state), and 25.48% (private).
