Undergraduate Tuition Trends

Public colleges: In 2025, average in-state tuition & fees are $14,435, while out-of-state tuition & fees are $27,592. Year-over-year, in-state costs changed by 0.22% and out-of-state costs changed by 1.84%. Since 2015, cumulative growth is 14.70% (in-state) and 30.85% (out-of-state).

Private colleges: The average tuition & fees are $37,134 in 2025. That is a 3.75% change from last year and 11.24% cumulative growth since 2015.

Graduate Tuition Trends

Public graduate schools: In 2025, average in-state graduate tuition & fees are $18,327, while out-of-state graduate tuition & fees are $23,591. Year-over-year, in-state costs changed by 1.35% and out-of-state costs changed by 2.42%. Since 2015, cumulative growth is 16.80% (in-state) and 22.91% (out-of-state).

Private graduate schools: The average graduate tuition & fees are $25,414 in 2025. That is a -2.80% change from last year and 22.60% cumulative growth since 2015.

Public vs. private comparison (increase rates): In 2025, private undergraduate tuition changed by 3.75% year-over-year. Public undergraduate in-state changed by 0.22% (lower by 3.52 percentage points vs. private), and public out-of-state changed by 1.84% (lower by 1.91 percentage points vs. private). Over the full period since 2015, private undergraduate tuition grew by 11.24%, compared with public in-state 14.70% (higher by 3.45 percentage points vs. private) and public out-of-state 30.85% (higher by 19.60 percentage points vs. private).

Graduate comparison: In 2025, private graduate tuition changed by -2.80% year-over-year. Year-over-year, on-campus COA changed by 1.82%, 2.35%, and 3.54%, respectively. Since 2015, cumulative on-campus COA growth is 25.30% (public in-state), 32.53% (public out-of-state), and 18.15% (private).

Off-campus COA: In 2025, estimated off-campus COA is $33,221 (public in-state), $46,378 (public out-of-state), and $55,920 (private). Year-over-year, off-campus COA changed by 6.02%, 5.34%, and 6.06%. Since 2015, cumulative off-campus COA growth is 29.25% (public in-state), 35.59% (public out-of-state), and 20.26% (private).
