Tuition Changes of the top national universities, liberal arts colleges, community colleges, and art schools
The 2023 tuition for top national universities rose by 1.66% for state residents and 1.01 % for out-of-state residents. In private schools, the average tuition is $57,925 increased by 4.06%. We compute the tuition changes based on top 100 national university rankings (provided by College Evaluator).
The average graduate program tuition in the schools is $15,562 (in-state rate) and $31,469 (out-of-state). In private graduate schools, the average tuition is $45,239 rose by 2.69% compared to last year.
The average tuition for top 50 liberal arts colleges is $14,789 for state residents and $32,269 for out-of-state students. The costs has been increased by 2.96%. In private liberal arts colleges, the tuition is increased by 3.43%.
In the top community colleges, mostly public 2-4 years colleges, the average tuition is $4,763 for state residents and $8,953 for out-of-state residents. The in-state rate is increased by 1.49% and out-of-state rate increased by 1.54% compared to the academic year 2021-2022. We analyze the tuition changes based on costs at top 100 community colleges.
For colleges specialized arts, music, and design (top 50 art schools), the average tuition is $11,979 for state residents and $33,791 for out-of-state residents. The in-state rate is increased by 3.53% and out-of-state rate increased by 2.44% compared to the last year.

The below table lists the tuition change by state from 2022 to 2023. The tuition and increase rate is based on the costs at four(4) years colleges such as national universities and liberal arts colleges, but exclude community colleges and trade/vocational schools.
For public schools, North Dakota has the lowest average tuition of $10,067 ($7,620 state residents) and Virginia has the highest average tuition of $34,133 ($14,636 state residents) in public schools. In private schools, where tuition rate is same for in-state/out-of-state students, North Dakota has the lowest private school tuition of $10,067 and Vermont has the highest private school tuition of $34,133.
For public colleges, the tuition of Arizona colleges have risen the most (9.96%) and the tuition of Kansas have risen at the least (-11.46%). The tuition of Arizona private colleges have risen the most (7.42%) and the tuition of New Mexico private colleges have risen at the least (-16.08%).
